Reconstitution Basics
A short research-use overview explaining how lyophilized peptides are prepared into a known laboratory concentration. This page is educational only and does not provide medical, cosmetic, administration, or dosing guidance.
What reconstitution means
Reconstitution is the process of adding a compatible sterile solvent to a freeze-dried peptide so it becomes a liquid solution with a known concentration.
What you need
A lyophilized peptide vial, compatible bacteriostatic or sterile solvent, sterile measuring equipment, alcohol swabs, labels, and a clean workspace.
Gentle handling matters
Add solvent slowly against the inside wall of the vial, then allow the powder to dissolve naturally. Gentle swirling is preferred. Avoid forceful spraying or shaking.
Inspect and label
The prepared solution should be visually checked for clarity and labelled with the compound name, solvent volume, concentration, and preparation date.
Basic concentration formula
Concentration = peptide amount ÷ solvent volume
Example format: milligrams per millilitre can be converted to micrograms per millilitre by multiplying by 1,000.
Open CalculatorCommon avoidable mistakes
- Using a solvent that is not compatible with the specific compound.
- Adding liquid forcefully onto the peptide powder.
- Shaking the vial instead of allowing gentle dissolution.
- Skipping clean handling and vial-top cleaning practices.
- Forgetting to label concentration and preparation date.
- Using a solution that appears cloudy, discoloured, or contaminated.
Responsible research note
Always follow supplier documentation, compound-specific research literature, institutional procedures, and applicable safety requirements. When uncertain, do not proceed with preparation until the correct research handling information has been confirmed.
